I remember the old AT&T before the DOJ broke it up into the Baby Bells. Over the years they slowly got back together buying each other off.
AT&T tries to avoid being subject to the Net Neutrality laws.
AT&T wants to be able to slow down your Internet speeds to certain websites and get paid by other websites to speed up access to their websites.
If Netflix and Hulu pay, but not Pluto.tv or DirectTV Now, etc then Netflix and Hulu will play videos, and the others will experience lag for the AT&T customers.
