Yep, it’s dead: Microsoft phone revenue fell to $5m last quarter, from $1.4bn two years ago

If you’ve been clinging to the fantasy that Microsoft’s Windows phone division is still alive and well, think again: the company’s own figures show that it generated just $5m in revenue last quarter.

I could fix Microsoft’s phone problem with just one thing. Put Android as the OS on the phones with the Google Play Store and each item sold from those phones gets 1% back to Microsoft. Windows Phones just don’t sell any more than the Microsoft Zune MP3 player did. The Zune was Microsoft’s version of the iPod. It was not as good as the iPod and the OS sucked as well.

If Microsoft can make a deal with Apple, they could sell iOS phones, but I doubt Apple wants to share iOS with other companies, as it is not in their business interest.

It has to be Android in order to be good.
